Domaine Hubert Lignier

Laurent Lignier loves Aligoté and he treats this wine with as much care and attention as anything in the cellar. He is also a member “Les Aligotéurs”, a group founded to raise the profile and reputation of this grape, too often seen as chardonnay’s poor relation. To gain entry to the group one needs a track record of producing serious Aligoté and its members list covers just about every great example going.

All the best Aligoté comes from old vine stock, the modern clones being more about volume than quality. These were planted in 1944 and produce a wine of succulent fruit and superb length. Bin the cassis.

About the Domaine

“The soil is the key to succeed in making a great wine: respecting and looking after it is essential to reveal a great terroir.”
Laurent Lignier

Domaine Hubert Lignier has grown to 9 hectares and has extensive holdings not just in Morey but also Gevrey, Chambolle and Nuits St Georges. Hubert’s son, Laurent, now runs the Domaine and is gaining a reputation for making pure ‘terroir’ driven wines of profound fruit quality. Excellent recent reviews from ‘Bourgogne Aujourdhui’ This feels like a terrific time for Laurent and his Domaine. Having put their troubles behind them he has made a run of exceptional if differing vintages with skilful wine making and sensitivity towards terroir as their hallmark. We recently welcomed Laurent to London for two days of tasting and I was genuinely wowed by many of the wines we drank. The future looks bright as this domaine reclaims its rightful place in the top level of Morey-St-Denis. Watch out for the 2017s, they are terrific.
