Description
A vineyard just south of Nuit-St-Georges planted in 1987. The rich clay gives a deeply coloured, intense wine with stylish plum and dark cherry fruit. This is the fuller and more age worthy of Lignier’s two Bourgogne Rouge. The 2019 is a wonderful example of the quality of the vintage, with ripe yet pure and crisp fruit in abundance, backed by fresh acidity and a cool saline note on the finish. An excellent Bourgogne Rouge that wouldn’t be out of place in a village line-up.
About the Domaine
“The soil is the key to succeed in making a great wine: respecting and looking after it is essential to reveal a great terroir.”
Laurent Lignier
Domaine Hubert Lignier has grown to 9 hectares and has extensive holdings not just in Morey but also Gevrey, Chambolle and Nuits St Georges. Hubert’s son, Laurent, now runs the Domaine and is gaining a reputation for making pure ‘terroir’ driven wines of profound fruit quality. Excellent recent reviews from ‘Bourgogne Aujourdhui’ This feels like a terrific time for Laurent and his Domaine. Having put their troubles behind them he has made a run of exceptional if differing vintages with skilful wine making and sensitivity towards terroir as their hallmark. We recently welcomed Laurent to London for two days of tasting and I was genuinely wowed by many of the wines we drank. The future looks bright as this domaine reclaims its rightful place in the top level of Morey-St-Denis. Watch out for the 2017s, they are terrific.
