A champagne of fantastic balance, so concentrated yet elegant with an electric lick of minerality and bursting with citrus fruit and white flowers. Superb.

Description

My favourite of the Gonet Champagnes, Ter Blanc is terrific. Three of the house’s best plots are used in the blend, two thirds in the Grand Crus of “Les Hautes Mottes” in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and “Vozémieux” in Oger, and one third from the 1er Cru “Les Corrigniers” of the Montagne de Reims. They blend beautifully to produce a champagne of fantastic balance, so concentrated yet elegant with an electric lick of minerality and bursting with citrus fruit and white flowers. Superb.

“The richest and most serious of these cuvées is the NV Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Cuvée TER, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and vinous wine evocative of citrus oil, green apples and white flowers. Rich and layered, it’s still tightly wound and should age with grace.”

William Kelley, Wine Advocate, September 2021

“The pale yellow colored NV Cuvée TER Blanc is 100% Chardonnay sourced from three locations: Les Hautes Mottes (Mesnil-sur-Oger Grand Cru), Vozémieux (Oger Grand Cru) and Les Corrigniers (Ludes Premier Cru). This is lot L151216 and blends 2011 (50%) with 2012 (50%), both fermented in 6,000-liter oak foudres (with no malolactic fermentation) and bottled in May 2013. Disgorged as a brut in December 2016, the TER opens with a clear, pure, fresh, complex and chalky bouquet of bright fruits. Pure, very fresh and lean yet complex on the palate, this is an elegant and persistent Blanc de Blancs in a stunningly lean and still slightly austere, salty style with challenging citrus flavors. This TER is still very young but should age very well over the years in the bottle.”
Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, November 2017

About the Domaine

Siblings Chantal and Pierre Gonet are 7th generation family growers in the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil.

Winemaker Pierre combines modern winemaking methods and traditional techniques to bring out the best of the minerality and structure of their 20-hectare estate on the Mesnil terroir. The Gonet’s own 35 separate plots spread across eight different villages.

This is single vineyard blanc de blancs Champagne at its best, a rare gem in the world of big brand Champagne houses and is now beginning to side-line many of these famous names in the upper echelons of London restaurants.
