*My favourite wines at under £100.00 per six in bond.*
While value and Burgundy aren’t often mentioned in the same breath there is plenty to be found. In many ways we are living through a golden age of wine making, as more growers than ever re-discover the old ways of doing things and begin to focus on quality over quantity. While global warming has many drawbacks for viticulture, it has also advantaged some of Burgundy’s more ‘marginal’ climates, meaning areas which traditionally struggled to ripen their grapes are much more dependable.
From Chablis in the north to the Mâconnais in the south, Burgundy is full of small producers making beautiful wines, sympathetic to their terroir and your wallet. Either in off the beaten track places like Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine, or the ‘generic’ appellations like Bourgogne Blanc and Rouge, there is a world of high quality wines made by wine makers with every bit as much passion as the famous names. They deserve more of our attention.
Below you will find six of my favourite wines from the 2021 vintage, all offered at less than £100.00 a six pack. The care and love which have gone into creating them belies their price- they are characterful, individual wines made by people who care and respect their land. I urge you to give them a try.
To place your order please just email firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know what you would like.
The wines are offered En Primeur and will be shipped to the UK over the course of the year.

Domaine Pascerette des Vignes Mâcon Milly Lamartine Cuvée Claude & Alphonsine 2021
From a parcel of 85 year old vines, with a few centenarians mixed in. We visited the vineyard, a beautiful and tranquil place, the kind to immediately make one think about giving it all up and moving to France! Again, all in concrete. Deeper aroma, with notes of apricot, peach, and honey. Super mineral attack, lots of concentration, tightly bound by citrus acidity. Feels both taut and generous. Finishes with beautifully cool fruit.
Domaine Gilbert Picq Chablis 2021
One can tell this is Chablis immediately and grown on good terroir at that. Didier says the soil in these parcels is high quality chalk and always gives a focused, mineral wine
“Glowing pale yellow with a light lime tint. Plenty of fruit, plenty of Chablis stones, remarkably long finish, this is clean and classy. Showing well and early out of its traps. Drink from 2024-2027.”

Domaine Gilles Morat Saint Veran Roche Mer 2021
Roche Mer could mean ‘mother rock’ or ‘rock of the sea’, both translations give us an insight into this wine. Two sites, one planted in 1959, the other in 1980, have poor, thin soil over limestone. They are fermented and aged in stainless steel. Lifted, crystalline white fruits. Very tight, pure, and racy attack, there’s a crunch to the acidity, as well as a saline minerality to the structure. Fine, elegant, with a glassy texture, peach fruit and a touch of red apple in its focused finish.
Domaine Pascerette des Vignes Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2021
Barrel aged but no new oak. More reserved nose after the joyful Milly Lamartine, with dark red berries and deep floral notes. There’s a good line here, the fruit is cool, the wine fresh, with fine tannins and the lift of limestone. Proper Burgundy. Good length, though showing a touch of dryness, as it was only bottled very recently. A great choice for good value Burgundy- it still exists! 2023-2026.
Domaine Florence Cholet Hautes-Côtes de Beaune 2021
A new wine for us this year. A vineyard above Pommard, cool in the mornings, with sun in the afternoon, which limits frost damage. This site seems to suit Florence’s style. It is light in colour, bright ruby, with delicate berry fruit, very fresh, and a mineral element to its acidity. Notes of dried flowers vie with just ripe cherry – this is beautifully balanced and so fresh.
Maison de la Chapelle Irancy 2021
A blend of four climats, Paradis, Renouel, Beaux Monts and Bâtardes from vines aged between 30 and 50 years. Completely destemmed and 100% raised in old barrels. Beautiful colour. Crisp red fruits and spice. Fresh and crunchy on the attack, with pure fruit and a sense of tension. This feels so pure and while there is concentration, from the low yields no doubt, there is no heaviness – it is crisp and elegant. Lovely floral red fruit finish.
