New Chablis Grower
The Dupré family, Alain & Catherine, can trace their roots in Chablis back generations. In 2019 they took the decision, spurred by the return of their children Valentin & Amandine to the domaine, to withdraw completely from the local co-operative and begin to bottle all of their wine under their own name. We are very pleased they did, and are proud to be bringing their wines to the UK for the first time.
Domaine Dupré can be found in Courgis, a few miles southwest of Chablis itself. The family farm 16ha, certified to HEV3, France’s highest environmental standard. Everything is done to protect the soils and the vines, no pesticides or herbicides are allowed, and hedges and wildflowers have been planted to encourage biodiversity. The family’s philosophy is two-fold; to minimise the impact of their farming on the environment and to produce the finest quality fruit possible. The winery has been completely rebuilt in the last few years. All fermentations take place with natural yeasts, while the wines ferment and age in stainless steel, which winemaker Valentin feels gives the purest expression of terroir.
We have started with the 2020 vintage, described by Jasper Morris as a “thoroughly good vintage in Chablis”. We were immediately taken with the purity of fruit here- Valentin is a young man with a classical palate, and these are beautifully delineated wines which simply couldn’t come from anywhere but Chablis. Bravo!
