Provençal Pleasure – Introducing Chateau JP Gaussen, Bandol
Robert and I have always coveted a Bandol in our roster of growers, so we are exceptionally pleased that our detective work has paid off and today we introduce Chateau JP Gaussen.
Jean-Pierre and his wife Julia bought and planted their first land in Bandol in 1962. Starting with just 1ha, they chose a site in the heart of Bandol, between La Cadière d’Azur and Le Brûlat, where pebbly red clay soils are responsible for some of the appellation’s most elegant, supple wines. Jean-Pierre is a resolute traditionalist- these are characterful, distinctive wines which sing with the flavours of Provence. The reds are finely structured, with mourvèdre’s distinctive dark fruit and garrigue spice, perfect for summer evenings, while the rose is elegant and refined, with crisp red fruits and lots of refreshment. We are very happy to list them today.
