Last month we welcomed Chantal Gonet to London for two days of visits and tastings, culminating in our Blanc de Blanc dinner at Lorne, a terrific success.

It was great to really get to know them in her company; I must admit to being blown away by their quality- I clearly haven’t been drinking enough of them!

We are about to ship our Christmas supplies so I thought a pre-shipment offer, focused on my favourite wines from last month’s tastings, would be a good way to introduce them to a wider audience.

Pre-shipment Offer – 10% off standard retail prices.

We are offering everything by the bottle, so mixed cases are no problem, and we expect to have the wine available to deliver by mid November.

Orders over 12 bottles will be delivered free. This excludes some highlands and islands postcodes, please see here for details

To order simply email jack@robertrolls.com and let me know what you would like. Offer runs until the November the 1st 2021, so please don’t delay!

The Wines
Based in the world famous Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the Gonet family have been growing grapes for seven generations. Specialising in 100% chardonnay Champagnes, Blanc de Blancs, they are known for their precise and elegant style.

These are racy, focused Champagnes for those who love tension and crystalline fruit – they are fabulous wines which deserve to be more widely known.

Signature Blanc de Blancs NV
£34.16 (normally £37.95)
From vines growing in the family’s plots in the Côte des Blancs, the Côte de Sézanne and Montgueux. Produced to exemplify the house’s mineral, focused style. Beautifully poised and crisp, with fine bubbles and notes of pear and citrus fruit. Great balance here, super refreshing, showing both the elegant structure and supple richness of a top quality Blanc de Blancs. One for having in the fridge for Friday nights.

Extra-Brut 3210 Blanc de Blancs NV
£38.66 (normally £42.95)
From two vineyards, in Le Mesnil and Montgueux, which give ripe fruit. Made without Sulphur and with zero dosage, the sugar normally added before shipping, this is a dry, racy Champagne which takes freshness and minerality to the next level. Quite a lime infused attack, fine mousse, then dry mid palate and a long, lean mineral finish. This is champagne at its most naked, clearly showing the influence of the famous chalk soils.

Ter Blanc de Blancs NV
£41.36 (normally £45.95)
My favourite of the Gonet Champagnes, Ter Blanc is terrific. Three of the house’s best plots are used in the blend, two thirds in the Grand Crus of “Les Hautes Mottes” in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and “Vozémieux” in Oger, and one third from the 1er Cru “Les Corrigniers” of the Montagne de Reims. They blend beautifully to produce a champagne of fantastic balance, so concentrated yet elegant with an electric lick of minerality and bursting with citrus fruit and white flowers. Superb.

Rosé Brut NV
£35.96 (normally £39.95)
The only wine here which is a blend, the Gonet Rose avoids any of the heaviness that some can show – it is energetic and fresh, light and crisp, with just ripe red berry fruit and a tangy, spicy finish. Made from 90% Chardonnay and just 10% Pinot Noir, we served this as the final wine of our Gonet dinner where it went down a storm with some 24-month Comté cheese. Not a pairing I have had before, but one I would heartily recommend!
