Situated in the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape village, this producer caught my attention this year with their fabulous 2008. 2008 was considered a rather difficult one in the region. Instead of bottling multiple cuvées as in other years, Clos du Caillou decided to blend their top cuvées together to make this one off ‘Cuvée Unique’. A blend of 70% Grenache, 16% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and 4% Cinsault, it has a charm all of its own.
